Is it the end or beginning? Is it warm or cold?
This is a very busy time of year. We are in full swing selling swimwear and summer bras, packing our customers off on their incredible holidays. Curiously, we need to skip 12 months forward and order our full collection of swimsuits, bikinis and cover ups for the 2025 season. At the same time we are very aware of the changing mood as the nights start to draw in and the shop prepares for the 'cosy' season.
There is a real tension between being in the summer vibe, rejoicing the richness of the days and doing the work for the upcoming winter celebrations of the colder, darker season. I am looking at swimwear inspired by 1940's Miami inspired architecture and Greek holidays whilst watching the first leaves turn golden and swirl to the ground.
Every August to date has been the same; rounds of trade shows, visits from sales reps selling the anticipation and excitement of next summer. This contrasts starkly with the shop being filled with cosy PJ's, wool socks and fluffy dressing gowns.
I do think with the summer we have had (I don't think the wind has stopped since March), looking forward to next summer is such a bad thing! However, I am very aware of wishing my time away. We are all guilty of wishing the week away for the weekend, work away for the holiday, winter away for the summer. In our industry it is very difficult to remain in the here and now, we are always preparing for the next delivery or anticipating the upcoming changes.
You could say that we are similar to gardeners; we plan ahead with hope. We hope that the summer weather is favourable, the items we have chosen are popular and that we are rewarded with beautiful swimwear and happy customers. In the meantime, we will take whatever 2024 wants to throw at us and make the best of the warm and the cold days.
With love THE GIRLS at Bravado
